Still hard at work here in Sarasota. After finishing the second draft of the Masterplan last week we are looking forward to sharing the Board's ideas with Pinecraft residents. The catfish fundraiser dinner was a huge success, drawing in a crowd of almost 1,500 people! The three of us had a great evening talking with community members, sharing about the project, eating catfish and listening to the performers. The Pinecraft Board did an incredible job organizing the event & we are grateful for their dedication to this project.
After a huge push to get a new bus route within Pinecraft, the Board's meetings and memo to SCAT finally paid off. Route 33 is a newly-implemented pilot bus route that goes from the Amish church to Siesta Key. Later in the year its success will determine whether or not the route will become permanent. In a meeting with SCAT this week we were excited to hear how many people have been using the bus on a daily basis-- the ridership numbers topped any other route in Sarasota!
Now with the bus route well underway we have been able to focus on other areas of the Plan. Our weekly public park meetings have been a great way for us to hear from a number of community members and we have heard many great ideas to incorporate into the Plan, especially regarding pedestrian safety in the area.
We are also excited to share that Goshen College's article was published in the Mennonite World Review. To read a bit more about our project here in Pinecraft, you can find the article here: http://www.mennoworld.org/2014/2/17/goshen-students-create-plan-florida-amish-communit/
Looking forward to a busy week ahead!
